Dr. Brad Zubowsky

Biography

Brad Zubowsky, DVM, is chief clinical officer of Phoenix Bioscience and the owner of Pouncey Tract Veterinary Hospital in Glen Allen, Virginia. A 1978 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine, he has practiced small animal medicine for more than four decades, nearly all of it in the greater Richmond area.

Dr. Zubowsky — Dr. Z to several generations of Richmond clients — owned and ran a multi-doctor practice for nearly twenty years before deciding to start over and build something to his own specification. He opened Pouncey Tract Veterinary Hospital in 2006 as a purpose-built, AAHA-accredited facility with an in-house surgical suite, digital radiography, a full pharmacy, and a closely supervised hospitalization and intensive care area. He has run it on the same premise ever since: educate the client, and never let the standard of care slip below what the medicine actually supports.

He is known across central Virginia as one of the region's leading veterinarians for sporting dogs. Retrievers, pointing breeds and field-bred dogs put demands on a body that a companion animal never sees — orthopedic load, heat and exertion, hydration, gut function under stress, injury in cover and cold water — and Dr. Zubowsky has spent a career treating those dogs and advising the handlers and breeders who campaign them.

He has been PennHIP certified since 1994, the diagnostic standard for evaluating hip laxity and guiding breeding decisions in working lines, and has been a certified veterinary acupuncturist through the Chi Institute since 2002, which he uses in performance, pain and recovery cases. He also holds nearly two decades of advanced training in veterinary dentistry and is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the American Veterinary Dental Society.

He describes himself first as a scientist. He reads the literature, tracks what is coming out of the research institutions, and has consistently brought advanced diagnostics and treatment modalities into general practice ahead of the curve — not because they were novel, but because the evidence justified them. That instinct is precisely why he is at Phoenix.

At Phoenix Bioscience, Dr. Zubowsky leads the clinical function: study design, investigator oversight, and the evidence standard behind every claim the company makes. Nothing carries a Phoenix label until the data supports it, and he is the one who decides whether it does.
